Salvatore Brunetti

My name is Salvatore Brunetti, and I have been a PhD student of the Molecular Ecology Group at the University of Innsbruck since January 2024.

During my doctoral studies, I plan to investigate how a fungus-breeding ant from Central Europe, Lasius fuliginosus, reproduces. I intend to conduct genetic and population studies, do field observations, and enhance our comprehension of the ecology and behaviour of L. fuliginosus. More generally speaking, I’m fascinated by how animals behave and how they interact with each other.

Since 2024, I am the coordinator of the Myrmecological News Blog together with Birgit Schlick-Steiner, Florian Steiner, and Patrick Krapf.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the outdoors and snapping pictures of the natural world with my camera. In addition, I enjoy using new technologies, playing video games, and watching movies and TV shows.
